The project
framing the view
This split-level house is designed to meet the lifestyle needs of our client.
The top level is accessed via lift and stairs and is a complete living and bedroom retreat
The ground floor is designed for the extended family.
The garages, entry and plantroom / storage areas is in the basement.
The extensive bay views are the focus of the house. The lower portion of the house is anchored to the site whilst the upper floor is almost floating.
The house is anchored on rendered concrete walls. These walls contrast with the aluminium cladding to create a dynamic symmetry that defines the entry and ground floor terrace. The entry is a gallery like space that provides security and direct access to the stair and lift. The 4-car garage is located to the side of the entry with storage and EV charging facilities.
The ground floor is designed to accommodate the extended family with a self-contained open planned kitchen, dining, living room plus four bedrooms with amenities. Bedrooms open to the western terrace and enjoy bay views whilst the living room also leads to an El-fresco dining patio that is surrounded by private landscaped gardens.
The first floor features a generous balcony that stretches across the entire house. This means that the 180 degree view is framed by the balcony with all rooms including the living, dining, kitchen, study, and bar and main bedroom all enjoying views of Port Phillip Bay. A library and study complete this living zone that is both sophisticated and relaxed.
The exposed site means that the design strategy focuses on materials, which need to be robust and long lasting. All living spaces enjoy cross ventilation and shading from direct solar gain.
The design is creative, timeless and designed to best practice sustainable design principles.
