Blairgowrie House

The project

the layering effect with timber

The design is influenced by the Australian beach house vernacular.

This influence gives the design an openness and a weightlessness.  The wrapping verandah form and the articulation of the timber structure showcases the versatile character of blackbutt glulam beams and columns.  The columns are coupled to enhance the vertical rhythm across the façade.

The sloping site required a house I two parts that steps down the site.

The central stair and lift features a wall of local limestone.  The first floor contains n open plan kitchen, meals and living spaces that flows onto a terrace.  The first floor also contains the main bedroom and amenities

The lower floor is primarily designed for the extended family.  This trend in beach houses allow for flexibility and the possibility of the house becoming the primary residence into retirement.

The design embraces sustainability such screening direct solar gain, cross-ventilation, sustainable materials such as the timber flooring, structure and cladding.
